Whatever happens this summer will determine Arteta’s future at the club. Especially if we don’t recruit well and address key areas. We have a very poor squad with no depth, we are weak in quality and mentality. As soon as we lose a few regulars we fall apart. This is damage that has been in the making since the last years of the Wenger era.

We have done well so far with the clear out, we understand what the problems are and how we need to address them but how fast we do it will determine whether we will be successful with it or not. For example moving out Kolasianac but not replacing him. I still think Arteta has what it takes to make a great Arsenal manager but he can only do it with the right players and making the right decision with our recruitment. We are going to look at a few priority areas Arsenal need to look at with a serious eye in the summer.

Mikel Arteta on progress at Arsenal, facing Everton, the January transfer window, and season's aims | Football News | Sky Sports

1. Central midfield

Xhaka ain’t all that but he’s currently the second best midfielder we have at the club after Partey. That’s a scary statement. We need another one or two to come in and compete with them. Players with the profile of Ndidi and Bissouma should be the type of players we should bring in. We need to cut ties with Ceballos and Elneny next season they are no where near the level we should be. One good game in 10 is mid table form. I wont mind keeping young Guendouzi at the club next season to provide cover.

2. Attacking midfield

Reports are suggesting that Arsenal could sign both Odegaard and Buendia. That will be a step in the right direction because we need creative versatile players. With Smith Rowe already at the club signing even one will be an improvement.

3. Right back

Arsenal need a new starting right back. It seems Arteta lost faith in Cedric and Bellerin by deploying Chambers at right back for the third time. But Chambers is not the answer, he’s too slow for a full back and cannot create anything. Bellerin could be sold this summer with reports suggesting that he could return to Barcelona or go to PSG. Arsenal are linked to Inter Milan right back, Achraf Hakimi, as a replacement should we part with Bellerin.

4. Backup Left back

This should be one of the priorities signings for next season. We over play Tierney knowing that he’s very injury prone. The only way to protect him is by signing his back up. There’s a lot of young prospects around Europe for this position and if we are short on money we can look to the academy and promote Tolaji Bola or Joell Lopez.

5. Number 2 Goalkeeper

Bernd Leno is guaranteed a start in every game and this is not good. He does incredible stuff but sometimes he does the worst. Its very important that we sign a capable deputy to push him, and keep him on his toes. Matt Ryan seem like a good signing if we go ahead and make the deal permanent but I want us to explore other options first like David Raya.

6. Striker

This position is becoming worrisome every game. Lacazette and Nketiah will both be entering the final year of their respective contracts. And we have Aubameyang who struggle to play as a number 9. It therefore make this position one of the priorities for next season. There’s speculations that Martinelli could be moved to the position next season but that’s not enough, we need a new striker period.

7. Right Center back

Maybe not very much a priority because we currently have Luiz, Chambers, Holding, Mavropanos and Saliba to play in that position. I still think Holding and Chambers can do the job but they are inconsistent. Luiz is out of contract in the summer so my guess is if we don’t bring in another right footed center back then we should try and keep Mavropanos and Saliba at the club next season.
