We all wanted the club to sign both Thomas Partey and Houssem Aouar during the transfer window but unfortunately we could only sign one of them. Although the majority of fans wanted the Aouar signing more, there were those who thought Partey was the player we have been missing since Patrick Viera left the club 15 years ago. Partey fills a position we lacked for a long time while Aouar was seen as a player that would help us create and open up teams in the attacking areas. He is therefore seen as just an improvement on what we already have in those areas and not a priority signing. This is the reason why Edu and Mikel opted to use their money wisely and sign Partey to fill that important midfield position.

Reports coming out since the window shut are saying Arsenal will go back in for Aouar in January or in the summer. With a handful of players at the club that can play in the attacking midfield position Arsenal will have to look internal for a solution to Aouar. Below is a list of players that can come in and do the job in the attacking midfield position.

1. Mesut Ozil

Probably the most obvious one of them. Although he has his issues with the club he is still an Arsenal player and could do the job better than anyone else. He is fit and in his prime years, with Partey in the squad Ozil could flourish in midfield if given the chance.

2. Dani Ceballos

Ceballos is versatile midfielder. Arteta has recently deployed him as a deep lying play maker. He played as a number 10 for Real Sociedad and Spain before and has recently shown that he has a creative mind and a killer pass. Long rage, short he has it all.

3. Emile Smith-Rowe

One of Arsenal brightens talents from Hale End. He can play anywhere across the front line. His playing style has been compared to that of Kevin De Bruyne. Very good on the ball, crazy passing technique and can score goals. If he manage to stay fit this season he could be the first choice in that position.

4. Joe Willock

Arteta has indicated before that Willock is best suited as a 10. His 2 previous mangers, Freddie and Emery, also deployed him as a 10 ahead of Ozil. He can drive the ball, can pass well, dribble and also score goals by arriving late in the box like Ramsey. He can also play as a 8 or a 6 and his energy makes him a favorite as well.

5. Other options

When we struggle to create from midfield, we often use our wide players. Pepe, Saka, Nelson and Willian are all great at creating chances when they cut inside the midfield. But we want to get back to creating from the midfield.
